Labels readers can trust
- News: fact-centered reporting based on attributable information.
- Analysis: interpretation grounded in reported facts and disclosed assumptions.
- Opinion: argument or commentary reflecting the author’s judgment.
- Civic Guide: practical, nonpartisan instructions using authoritative sources.
Sourcing
We favor primary sources: legislation, official calendars, vote records, court opinions, public data, agency releases, transcripts, and on-the-record interviews. Anonymous sourcing should be rare and explained.
Headlines and context
Headlines should accurately reflect the story. Quotes should not be stripped of context. Images should not create a false impression. Statistics should identify their source and relevant time period.
Conflicts and corrections
